Wood ducks at Pocosin Lakes

The wood duck is one of nature’s most attractive birds. Depending on male or female, feathers can be a combination of iridescent blue, green, white, purple and chestnut. Wood ducks are one of the few ducks with clawed feet to help grab bark and branches. Found on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and in wooded swamp areas, they nest in tree holes and cavities.
