Darrell Wayne “Tadpole” Woolard

Mr. Darrell Wayne “Tadpole” Woolard, age 73, a resident of 1098 Mill Hole Road, Washington, died Monday, November 21, 2016 at his home.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Woolard Family Cemetery, located at 1098 Mill Hole Rd., Washington. The service will be officiated by Tony Congleton. Pallbearers will be Junior Wainwright, Jesse Elks, David Ray Porter, Bobby Woolard, Steve Landing and Jerrell Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Coward and Charlie Godley.

The family received friends Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will continue to receive friends at the home of Tadpole’s daughter: Darlene Elks, located at 1696 Mill Rd., Chocowinity.

Tadpole was born in Beaufort County on March 14, 1943, son of the late James Filbert Woolard and the late Martha Jane Harris Woolard. He attended Bath High School and in 2000 retired with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a supervisor. Many remember Tadpole as a member of the Dairy Palace Gang of Washington.

Survivors include a son: Darrell W. Woolard Jr. of Washington; a daughter: Darlene W. Elks (David) of Chocowinity; a brother: Jesse T. Woolard of Atlanta, GA; five sisters: Doris Wimbley, Dorothy Everson, Loyce Boland and Zelma Lilley, all of Washington, and Betty Smith of Maxwell; four grandchildren: Charlie David Elks, Emilie Elks Pendley, Amber Marie Woolard and William Brandon Elks and five great-grandchildren: Grace Elks, Caleb Pendley, Jacob Pendley, Samuel Elks and Haleigh Pendley. Tadpole was predeceased by a brother: James Woolard.
