Commissioners meeting delayed for another week

The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners met Monday night for a not-so-regular monthly meeting — the two-minute meeting was held to postpone the regularly scheduled meeting. The delay was caused by the request for a vote recount, as incumbent Republican Commissioner Gary Brinn and another Republican candidate, Derik Davis, are in a tight race for the fourth seat up for grabs during the recent election. Since state law requires new commissioners take the office on the first Monday of the December meeting and county elections officials have been awaiting instructions about recounts from the state Board of Elections, the results won’t be official until later this week, according to county Manager Brian Alligood. The commissioners’ regularly scheduled meeting has been rescheduled for Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
