Clifton G. Davenport Sr.

Mr. Clifton Gerald Davenport Sr., age 74, a resident of Belhaven, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital of Washington.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at West Belhaven Church of Christ, officiated by Kent Gurganus. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home.

Mr. Davenport was born in Washington County on December 24, 1941, son of the late William E. Davenport and the late Ida Clifton Davenport. He was a 1960 graduate of Plymouth High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On June 3, 1961 he married the former Janice Faye Sadler who survives. In 2014 he retired from the N.C. Hyde Corrections as a maintenance supervisor. Mr. Davenport was a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ.

Surviving along with his wife Janice of the home are two daughters: Sherry Davenport Hollowell and her husband Bryan of Pinetown and Pamela Davenport Midgette and her husband Rodney of Plymouth; a son: Clifton G. “Jerry” Davenport Jr. and his girlfriend Lori Daniels of Belhaven; two sisters: Jean Wielgorecki of Ormond Beach, FL and Anita Davenport Ferrer of Chesapeake, VA; a brother: Lindsey Davenport of Elizabeth City; two sisters-in-law: Patricia Sadler of Washington and Bettie Lou Sadler of Pantego; six grandchildren: Megan Hollowell Phelps and her husband Brandon, Zachary Michael Midgette, Rachel Marie Hollowell, Cameron Gerald Davenport, Allison Faith Midgette and Caily Anna Davenport and many nieces and nephews.
