David Caldwell Everett Jr.

David Caldwell Everett Jr., 72, of Bath, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in East Carolina Heart Institute. Mr. Everett was born on March 10, 1944 in Beaufort County to Elsie Bowen and David “Red” Caldwell Everett Sr. Mr. Everett was preceded in death by both parents and his sister Valerie Bowen Everett Hall.

At Bath High School, Dave excelled in academics and sports. He lettered in baseball, basketball and football and was a vital part of the Pirates’ three-year stint as football State Champs. Upon his graduation in 1962, Dave was awarded a full scholarship to North Carolina State University.

As linebacker he became the defensive team captain, was awarded all conference and all academic distinctions, led the team in tackles his senior year, and the Wolfpack became the 1965 ACC Football Co-Champions with Clemson. Dave then carried his enthusiasm and love for football to Wilson’s Fike High School, where he coached that team to a State Championship.

He went on to pursue a long-term career in real estate and construction as a General Contractor.

He loved to sail and race sailboats and was a member of the Pamlico Sailing Club. He also loved to hunt and fish and founded “Big Red Hunt Club.” One of his proudest achievements was receiving the 2006 NC Wildlife Federation’s Sportsman of the Year Award for his work with young hunters.

Dave Everett was truly a larger than life character who will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

Survivors include his three children: Patricia Lindsay Everett Boston and her husband William of Rutherfordton, NC, David Caldwell Everett III and his wife Amy of Dulles, VA, and Jennifer Jo Everett of Bath, NC; their mother Alva Jeanne Horton of Ayden; his stepchildren: James Christopher Womack and his mother Jackie Lewis Everett of Bath, NC, James Tracey Stallings of Norfolk, VA and Mark Travis Stallings of Cary, NC; his brother Surry Parker Everett and his wife Dorothy of Bath, NC; seven grandchildren: Sarah Meekins, Hannah Meekins and Rebecca Meekins, Zachary David Everett, Alexandra Marie Cutchen, Abigail Paige Cutchen and Zoey Addison Everett. And his special dogs Ginger and Shadowgirl.

A celebration of Mr. Everett’s life will be held from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the home of Surry and Dorothy Everett, 400 Brick Yard Lane in Bath.
