Katherine F. Westbrook

Mrs. Katherine Futrell Westbrook, age 74, a resident of 105 Pine Street, Washington, was promoted to the church triumphant Monday, Jan. 2, 2017. She was at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Mrs. Westbrook was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on Jan. 29, 1942. She was daughter of the late Cecil Horace Futrell and the late Dorothy Alice Shepherd Futrell. She was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth. On June 13, 1964, she married the love of her life, Richard Holton Westbrook Sr. who survives. Mrs. Westbrook started her career at Home Federal and Loan in Portsmouth until she and her husband relocated to Washington. This is where she raised her three children before becoming the director of the Afterschool Enrichment Program for the Beaufort County Schools. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Washington, where she joined Circle 4.

Surviving along with Mrs. Westbrook’s husband Richard of the home are three children: Richard Holton Westbrook II of Wilson, Kevin Ashly Westbrook of Moyock and Leigh Anne Westbrook Berger of Wake Forest; two sisters: Jeannie Wimbrough of Portsmouth and Dottie Hodges of Portsmouth and eleven grandchildren: Kelsey Dee Westbrook, Kaitlin Nicole Westbrook, Hunter Camden Westbrook, Taylor Anne Westbrook, Sarah Ashly Westbrook, Anna Kate Westbrook, Richard Holton Westbrook, Carly Leanne Berger, Braydon John Berger, Peyton Westbrook Berger and Emersyn Katherine Berger. Westbrook was predeceased by a brother: Bobby Futrell.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Westbrook will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church of Washington. The service will be officiated by Rev. W. Lee Kinney. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
