Katherine Elaine Leggett Powers, 42, of Chocowinity, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Greenville with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Powers was a native and lifelong resident of Beaufort County. She was employed with the Washington Daily News and was attending Pitt Community College for a Criminal Justice degree.

She was a member of Harvest Church of Washington. She loved her children with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Laura Mae Garris; and first husband, Stephen Powers.

She is survived by her: daughters, Sierra Powers Harrison and wife, Cailey, of Chocowinity and Kalynn Nunnink, of the home; sons, Stephen Powers II, of Chocowinity and Justice Powers, of the home; mother, Judy Garris, of Vanceboro; sister, Cristy Scherer, of New Bern; and many other half-sisters and several nieces and nephews.
