Realtors start food drive for local shelter

During the Washington-Beaufort County Board of Realtors membership meeting on Wednesday, members were asked to bring non-perishable food items to help with the Zion Shelter and Kitchen’s food bank.

Zion Shelter and Kitchen is located at 114 W. Fourth St. in Washington. The shelter opened in 1986 and has served the local transient homeless population, in addition to serving lunches to anyone in need, five days a week. There was an overwhelming response to this request, and in turn we, as the WBCBR, are requesting assistance from the community at large regarding our effort to collect an abundance of food for this compassionate and giving organization. Suggestions for items most used are large cans of vegetables, beans (especially pork-n-beans), large bags of rice, etc. We are also accepting monetary donations. Food items or monetary donations can be dropped off at the following real estate agencies: Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty, 239 W. Main St.; Century 21 The Realty Group, 162 W. Main St.; and The Rich Company, 1468 Carolina Ave. Also collecting will be The Rich Company, Bath Branch Office, 423 Carteret St. in Bath.

Thanks for your support and assistance with this most worthy endeavor to help the homeless and needy individuals in our area and give them “hope” in a desperate time. Any and all contributions are appreciated. Donations will be collected at each agency mentioned above until March 3 and delivered to the shelter shortly thereafter.
