GREENVILLE — Through the generosity of more than 75 local businesses and hundreds in the community, the 10th-annual Ride for the Ribbon benefit ride raised $19,500 to aid local uninsured and underinsured patients with breast cancer screenings and support during breast cancer treatment.

The following local foundations are the recipients of these funds:

  • Lenoir Hospital Foundation received a $1,500 donation. They and the UNC Lenoir Cancer Center help breast cancer patients with wigs, transportation and various other needs.
  • Pretty in Pink Foundation received a $6,000 donation. They financially assist and advocate on behalf of breast cancer “champions” to receive free or greatly reduced rates on breast cancer treatment. Pretty in Pink’s Beyond the Ribbon program also provides needed items such as scarves, wigs and prosthetics. While Pretty in Pink Foundation operates throughout the state, this donation will be used for patients in Pitt, Beaufort and Lenoir counties.
  • Vidant Health Foundation received a $6,000 donation earmarked for breast cancer. These funds are typically used for breast cancer screenings, providing more than 150 patients with clinical breast exams, as well as screening and diagnostic mammograms. These screenings detect cancer earlier and increase the likelihood of positive outcomes.
  • Shepard Cancer Foundation received a $6,000 donation. Almost a quarter of the patients seen at Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center are impacted by breast cancer. These funds are used in a variety of ways including breast cancer screenings, transportation, wigs and the therapeutic massage program.

Eastern Radiologists is proud to be a presenting sponsor, finance the operating costs for and oversee Ride for the Ribbon as it raises funds for early detection programs and local breast cancer patients.
