Mr. Jesse Robert “Jake” Rogers, age 89, a resident of Market Street Extension, Washington, died Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington conducted by Rev. David Harrington.
Mr. Rogers was born in Beaufort County in Jan. 9, 1928. He was the son of the late Nicholas Rogers and Lucy Gray Lilley Rogers. Mr. Rogers served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Princeton during World War II. After his military service, Mr. Rogers worked at Sam Marsh’s Service Station. Later, he worked as route salesman for Pepsi Cola. Mr. Rogers worked from 1967 to 2000 as a route salesman for Coca Cola. He was a member of Wares Chapel United Methodist Church where he served on the Grounds Committee. In his spare time, Mr. Rogers loved to fish, especially rock fishing and cooking fish stew.
On Feb. 19, 1949, Mr. Rogers married the former Dorothy Louise Fields, who preceded him in death, Sept. 4, 2014.
Mr. Rogers is survived by two daughters, Brenda Rogers Watters and husband Jackie, of Washington, and Sharon Rogers Hollingsworth and husband Charles “Chuck�� Hollingsworth, of Farmville; grandson, Ray Watters, Jr. of Raleigh; and sister, Betty Pearl Boyd of Darlington, South Carolina.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Wayne Rogers and Jesse Robert “Little Jake” Rogers.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
