Down East Seniors host county commissioner

The Down East Seniors Club held its March 29 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America,” and Charles Smith gave the invocation. Dick Paul provided humor.

Gary Brinn presented his personal profile. He was born in Beaufort County in 1945. When he was 4, the family moved to Virginia Beach where he grew up. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1970, he came back to Beaufort County to care for his father and has lived here ever since. He has retired after working in the landscape business for 40 years. He and his wife of 46 years, Kay, have two children. He has coached youth league football and baseball. He is currently serving his second term as a county commissioner.

Rumley displayed Confederate currency his father found in an old house in town many years ago.

Sam Price won the 50/50 drawing.
