Ernest Albert Alligood, 85, passed away April 30, 2017 at his home. He was born in Washington on December 5, 1931, the son of Jatha and Ella Alligood. Ernest joined the United States Army in 1951 and was a Korean War veteran. He spent most of his life in Aurora.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Cox Alligood and siblings Viola, Hilton, Odell, Eula, Lena, Delma and Gene.

He is survived by his sister Naomi Taylor of Snow Camp, NC; daughter Sherri Valerio & partner Sean McCracken of Vanceboro, NC; daughter Lucy Holman & husband Matt of New Bern, NC; grandchildren Robert III, Richard, Ruben, Ryan, Rachel, Brandon, Courtney, Aubree and Connor; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Smokey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
