Linyear Mayo “LM” Wallace Jr.

Mr. Linyear Mayo “LM” Wallace Jr., age 85, of Woodland, NC, passed away on May 29, 2017, at the Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.

A native of Beaufort County, Mr. Wallace was born on June 23, 1931, to Linyear Mayo and Fidelia Woolard Wallace Sr. in Washington. LM graduated from Washington High School and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, he attended East Carolina University and graduated with his Master’s Degree. LM married his loving wife Dorothy and made his home in Woodland. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. LM was a member of the Business Department faculty at Chowan University from 1958 until he retired in 1998. During his career in education, LM pursued additional studies at NC State University, Colorado State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia. Mr. Wallace dedicated his life to education and teaching others what he knew.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Wallace Ollar, and his brother, Joshua Edward Wallace.

“LM” is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy; one sister, Jean Wallace Baldwin, of Greenville; three brothers, Merrill Wallace of Washington, Lem Wallace and wife Annette of Grimesland, NC, and Homer Wallace and wife Goldie of Washington; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the Woodland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A celebration of life memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church, Woodland, with Dr. J. Brabban officiating.
