Daphanie McClees is the grand champion for a second consecutive year, and Colon Bailey took second place, in the Tyrrell-Washington Bus Driver Road-e-o on May 10.
Bus driving skills were tested through a series of obstacles on a driving course set up at Pines Elementary School at Plymouth.
Drivers were tested in performing serpentine maneuver, left turn, right turn, backing, diminishing clearance, offset alley, turn around, and distance stopping.
This year’s participants from Tyrrell County Schools were Colon Bailey, Jeanette Collins, Mary Gibbs, Cherry Liverman, Daphanie McClees, Gary Rodgers, and L.A. White. Substitute driver Doris Armstrong joined the group for moral support.
The Tyrrell and Washington County participants enjoyed the fellowship of a cookout lunch and an awards ceremony after the event.
“All of the drivers did a great job on the course while practicing valuable skills,” stated Dr. Will Hoffman, Tyrrell Schools superintendent.
