Henry Mitchell, aka “Blue Jr.,” of 100 New Hope Road, died Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Funeral services will be 12 Noon Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Metropolitan AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. A public visitation will take place Friday, July 14^th from 4-6pm in the Leon Randolph Memorial Chapel at 208 West MLK Jr. Dr.

He was born April 16, 1941 to the late Delzora & Henry Mitchell Sr. in Beaufort County. Henry was a graduate of P.S. Jones in 1963.

An avid football and baseball player, Henry was honored as MVP at the Washington High School Walk of Fame in 1961-1962.

Mr. Mitchell’s career includes 20 years in the US Army, 20 years employment with the City of Washington, and many years at the Veterans Hospital in DC.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by 3 daughters: Angela, Sheria and Carlanna; 2 sons: Henry and Lamar; 1 aunt: Marjorie “Rebaby” Moore; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
