Pauline Reavis Keggereis

Pauline Keggereis, 93, of Raleigh, NC, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 23, 2017. Pauline was born July 14, 1924 in Weaverville, NC. She was the third child born to Rev. Burley and Gertha Reavis. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Kegg” Keggereis, her parents, and two older brothers William Hugh Reavis and James Clyde Reavis.

As a child of a Methodist minister, Pauline moved often, living in Weaverville, Morganton, Wilmington, Greensboro and Hertford, NC. She graduated from Greensboro College in 1945 with a B.A. in Religion. After her graduation from college, Pauline and Kegg were wed in Hertford on September 29th, 1945 and shortly thereafter settled in Raleigh. They were blessed with their first child, Shaaron, in 1946 and their second child, Lynda, in 1950.

Pauline and Kegg joined Hayes Barton United Methodist Church where they became active members. She was a co-founder of the Cameron Sunday School Class as well as chair of many committees including the Altar Guild, the Music Committee, the Wedding Committee and the Funeral Committee. She was also a choir member for many years.

Pauline gave freely of her time to many endeavors. She was a lifetime member of the Greensboro College Alumni Board and in 1987 received the Greensboro College Distinguished Alumni Award. Pauline was also active in community affairs. She volunteered at the Daniels Junior High School Library, the Board of Elections, and was a fixture at polling sites.

Pauline is survived by her daughter Shaaron Cypher and husband Chris of Raleigh, daughter Lynda Watkins and husband Fred of Washington, nephew Mike McIntire and wife Barbara of Raleigh, 4 grandchildren Christian Cypher III and wife Kara of Raleigh, Kristi Phillips and husband Ian of Hampstead, NC, Fred Watkins IV and wife Elizabeth of Washington, LT R. Lee Watkins, USN, and wife Noel of Hollywood, MD, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Hayes Barton UMC on Fairview Rd. at Stone St. on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 at 1:00pm, with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Interment was at Raleigh Memorial Park following the funeral service.
