Albert Jacques Nyman

Deacon Albert Jacques Nyman peacefully transitioned on his 100th birthday Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was born August 20, 1917 to the late Gerhardina Esajas Nijman and Julius E. Nijman in Paramaribo, Suriname “South America.” Albert was a longshoreman who worked for Holland American Lines for many years but then retired from Sea-Land Corporation as a longshoreman. Albert was a member of St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Emily Julia Nyman, one son, Reverend Roland Nyman and his granddaughter, Lauren Nyman. Survivors in addition to his wife Alice Flynn Nijman include two daughters, Rose A. Nyman Rosser of Hampton, GA and Vita Derricott of Fredericksburg, VA; two sons, Albert Nyman Jr. of Oceanside, CA and Alan Hans Nyman of Brooklyn, NY; one stepson, Carlton King; two stepdaughters; Jannelle King Walker and Janeen King; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church, Belhaven, with Reverend James W. Harris officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Antioch Memorial Cemetery, Belhaven.
