Mary E. Cowan Cuthrell

Mary Elizabeth Cowan Cuthrell, 98, of Swan Quarter, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at Cross Creek Health Care Center.
Born in Hyde County, October 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel and Alice Virginia Spencer Cowan. She was married to Fred Edward Cuthrell who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was employed with the Hyde County Schools and worked in the cafeteria of Mattamuskeet school for eleven years. She enjoyed crocheting and she was always willing to out-fish anyone.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Steve Bryan will officiate.
Surviving is a son, Edward R. Cuthrell and wife, Elizabeth of Rogersville, TN; a daughter, Kay C. Emory and husband, Bennett of Swan Quarter; a son-in-law, William Burr of Lumberton; a brother, Robert S. Cowan of Rogersville, TN; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Burr; a brother, Harold Cowan; two sisters, Imogene C. Garrett and Lena C. Toder; two grandchildren, Stanley Burr, William Burr and a great-grandchild, Carl Lee Smith.
The family will visit with friends immediately following the service and other times at the home place, 66 Credle Road, Swan Quarter.
