The Down East Seniors Club held its Aug. 30 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America,” and Ed Bolen gave the invocation. Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history, and Dick Paul provided humor.

Rumley welcomed new member Pat Griffin.

Bill Cheshire introduced Dana Eddings as the guest speaker. Eddings told the club about Combat Warriors, Inc. He is a board member of this all-volunteer organization which works to honor and support, financially and emotionally, the commitment and courage of our military combat warriors. The group’s main focus is to treat combat-experienced warriors to safe, relaxing outdoor experiences such as hunting and fishing trips. They conduct 20 to 30 such events a year, each for a small group of warriors so the warriors can talk freely with each other. The aim is to relieve stress and transition back to civilian life. This is a North Carolina organization which is assisting independent groups with the same name and goals to set up in Texas and Florida. The hope is that eventually each state will have its own organization. More information is available on CombatWarriorsInc.org.

Bolen won the 50/50 drawing.
