The Washington Rotary Club (evening) met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members and guests dined in the Pamlico Room. After President Todd Williamson called the meeting to order, Dr. Phillip Cochran led in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Bartow Houston led in a verse of “My Country ’Tis of Thee.” Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

Special guests for the evening were Assistant District Governor Susan Daughtry and District Governor Stan Keeler. Mrs. Daughtry made the formal introduction of Governor Keeler who then proceeded to explain his three-step process for increasing membership. Attraction, engagement and reward are easily used to interest potential members. He also spoke of the importance of maintaining current membership. Governor Keeler encouraged members to be involved in all levels of Rotary. For example, the governors District International Project for this Rotary year is a medical mission trip to Morocco with Alliance For Smiles Inc. Their specialty is cleft repair on children. As Governor Keeler finished, he was presented a check for his mission trip and a Charlie Fishing Tournament T-shirt. In other business, Serena Sullivan, director of the Beaufort County Community College Foundation, was presented with a check to be used for scholarships. This is a gift made annually by the evening club. The meeting closed with reciting the Four Way Test.
