Mrs. Julia “Judy” Anna Wooten Hayes, age 94, a resident of Washington, NC, passed away Friday September 22, 2017 at her home.
A funeral service will be held Monday September 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and will be officiated by Father Jim Reed. Burial will follow Tuesday September 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the National Cemetery in New Bern, NC. Graham Hayes, Evan Hayes, Billy Lassiter, Ryan Mooring, Corey Francis, and Gary Mottler will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hayes was born in New Hanover County on February 23, 1923 to the late Lisle Lillington Wooten and Bessie Albytha Gregory. She was married to the late Chester Knox Hayes a retired Lt. Colonel of the US Army. Mrs. Hayes was very active in her community as long as she was able. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Hayes was vice president of the NC Garden Club, a member of Washington Garden Club, a member of Addisco book club, master flower show judge, a Real Estate broker, and teacher of Real Estate at Beaufort County Community College. She was also an Arts Council Charter member, on the city planning board, and a member of the Friendship Force.
Survivors include, three sons, Greg Hayes and wife Trish of Ayden, Davis Hayes and wife Betty of Pinetown, Andy Hayes and wife Alice of Frisco, CO, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lt. Colonel Chester K. Hayes on June 7, 1979.
The family will receive friends following the service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
