Stanley Lee Lamkin

Stanley Lee Lamkin, 70, died September 21, 2017, in Richmond, Virginia. He was a native of Saybrook, Illinois, and was the son of the late Paul Jerome and Mary Gertrude Vittitoe Lamkin.

Stanley retired from Hewlett Packard as a project manager, specializing in programs for government and military customers in 2013.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Jean Gibson Lamkin of Norfolk and his sister, Janet Lamkin Hill, of Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He valued his friends in his Men’s Group highly and enjoyed hosting them at dinners in his home.

He graduated from Old Dominion College in 1969 with a BS degree in Physics. He continued his studies at ODU, earning a MS degree in 1974 and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics in 1994. Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, recognized his work in 1990. The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awarded him the status of Associate Fellow in 1990. In 1991 his work at NASA was recognized by a Superior Accomplishment Award. Hewett Packard named Stan an MVP in 2005 and 2007 for his outstanding accomplishments. He was also a member of the Torch Club and American Mensa.

A memorial service will be held in St. James Episcopal Church, East Main Street, Belhaven, NC, at 3 pm on Sunday, October 1.

Memorial donations may be made to Belhaven Renaissance, 338 Edward Street, Belhaven, NC 27810. Donations will be used for the Caboose Restoration Project which Stan championed.
