Haskell McCurly Taylor

Mr. Haskell McCurly Taylor, age 83, a recent resident of East Carolina Rehab & Wellness Center, Greenville, NC, and a life-long resident of Chocowinity, died Friday, October 6, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Taylor was born February 13, 1934 in Beaufort County, NC to the late Dolly Elks Taylor and William Rufus Taylor. He was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and served his country in the United States Air Force from April 1953 until his retirement in September 1973. He was very proud of having served his country. He later worked for the United States Postal Service from 1974 until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Taylor was married to the former Margaret Cole who preceded him death. Mr. Taylor was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church of Chocowinity. In his spare time he loved working on old cars, small engine repair and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by six sisters: Ester Buck, Margaret Gilgo, Judy Martin, Ruth Taylor, Mildred Taylor and Della Mae Stubbs; two brothers: Rayvon Taylor and Lloyd Taylor. Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Taylor Anderson (Joe) of Tarboro, NC; one son, Haskell M. (John) Taylor Jr. (Karen) of Chocowinity; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Jessica Colclasure (DJ) of Texas, Kaitlyn Anderson (Kaitlyn Sasser) of Tarboro, Zack Taylor (Bailey) of Chocowinity; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Grace, Claire Taylor and Rilynn Colclasure.
A celebration of his life with full military honors will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the family plot in Oakdale Cemetery with Pastor Ola Forbes Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the grave. Memorial donations may be directed to Wayside Presbyterian Church, c/o Bonnie Buck, PO Box 70, Chocowinity, NC 27817, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 East, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Taylor family.
