From the National Society of High School Scholars

ATLANTA, Ga. — The National Society of High School Scholars announced Marsha’ll Betts, of Fairfield, has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization.

Marsha’ll Betts, a junior at Mattamuskeet Early College High School in Swan Quarter, is the daughter of Barbara A. Wiggins of Fairfield. Currently, she has a GPA of 4.5 and is ranked first in her class.

The society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. NSHSS founder and Chairman Claes Nobel made the announcement. Nobel is a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Marsha’ll has demonstrated to achieve the exceptional level of academic excellence,” Nobe said.

Upon graduation, Betts plans to attend medical school to become an emergency medical physician. She’s also working to be eligible for a full academic scholarship.

Wiggins wishes these words to remain with her daughter: “Always know that your mamma, your family and your church are behind you 100 percent. No matter how strong the battle is before you, remember what you’ve been taught, and that’s to fall to your knees and pray God changes your situation. Go to God first before anyone else.”
