Mrs. Marie Hoogendoorn Slade, age 88, a resident of Bayview, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Bayview Community Cemetery and will be officiated by Pastor Dennis Barber and Pastor David Linton.

Mrs. Slade was born in Beaufort County on April 2, 1929 to Gerrit “George” Hoogendoorn and Therese Telenga Hoogendoorn. She attended Bath High School. On March 21, 1947, she married Miller Garfield Slade. She was co-owner, operator and bookkeeper for Slade Wholesale. Mrs. Slade attended Bayview Community Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Slade and wife Cathy of Bath, Danny Slade and wife Cindy of Belhaven; a daughter, Beverly Jo Slade of Bath; four grandchildren, Tracey Nixon, Gerrit Slade, Kelly Slade, Kristen Slade; three great-grandchildren, Zoe Slade, Micah Slade, Tristen Nixon; and two sisters, Hennie Lewis and Betty Harris, both of Bath.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Miller G. Slade and a sister, Dokie Miller.

The family will receive friends at Bayview Community Church following the burial and other times at the homes of her children, Beverly Slade, Michael Slade and Danny Slade.
