Daughtrey W. “D.W.” Spivey

Mr. Daughtrey Winston “D.W.” Spivey, age 100, a resident of 843 Harding Lane, Chocowinity, died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Ryan Ashlock. Burial will follow in the Spivey Family Cemetery, Harding Lane, Chocowinity. Jimmy Turner, Victor Spivey, Paul Odom, Keith Hickey, Les Leicht and Henry Harding will serve as pallbearers. Darrell Spivey, Michael Spivey, Christopher Bright and Craig Harding will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Spivey was born in Perquimans County on January 16, 1917. He was the son of the late Warren William Spivey and Margaret Elizabeth Winslow Spivey. Mr. Spivey served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired salesman with Murphey Wholesale Company in Greenville. Mr. Spivey was a member of the Washington Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he had served as an Elder, Deacon and Sabbath School Superintendent.

On January 25, 1942, Mr. Spivey married the former Verda Inez Harding, who preceded him in death, April 24, 2015.

Mr. Spivey is survived by two sons, Winston Lee Spivey and wife, Linda and Kenneth Ray Spivey and wife, Cathy, all of Chocowinity; daughter, Sondra Jean Spivey Bright and husband, Gary of Chocowinity; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Spivey, Jesse Spivey, Elvin Spivey; three sisters, Marie Turner, Lucy Pearson and Ruth Spivey; and two granddaughters, Victoria Spivey and Rallie Spivey.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
