Frank W. Fortescue Jr.

Frank Wahab Fortescue Jr., 85, of 865 Sladesville Rd., Scranton, died peacefully, Thursday, November 23, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Hyde County, March 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Rev. Frank Wahab Fortescue Sr. and Sallie Swindell Fortescue. He was married to the former Edna Earl Pittman who survives.

He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a Sergeant with the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Frank was owner and operator of the former Roanoke Discount Store in Plymouth, a commercial fisherman, farmer and operated his own land clearing business. He was an avid sportsman holding memberships in various local area hunting clubs, the Sladesville Hunting Club, Pungo River Hunting Club and the Albemarle Houndsmen Association. He enjoyed gardening, which he shared with his community.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery. Morgan Harris will officiate.

In addition to his wife surviving are two daughters, Laura F. Willis and husband Rocky of Sladesville, Dottie F. O’Neal and husband Walt of Ponzer; a brother, James M. “Jimmy” Fortescue and wife, Elvira of Washington; a sister, Anne F. Davis of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Dee Anne Fortescue of Advance; two grandchildren, Vincent Blair Berry II of Durham and Nick Klapp and wife, Nikki of Washington; and the pending birth of his first great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Hope Fortescue; a brother, William W. Fortescue and a brother-in-law, Rodney Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Mrs. Elaine Tooley, 762 Lynnsburg Rd., Scranton, NC 27875.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
