Roy Wilton Brickhouse, 89, of 5420 Soundside Road, Columbia, died Friday evening, December 8, 2017, at his home.
Born in Tyrrell County, June 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph Wilson and Beatrice Sawyer Brickhouse.  He was married to the former Peggy Roughton who survives.
He was a driver with Trailways for 27 years, retiring in 1985 and later joined with his wife in escorting group tours to various destinations.  He worked in law enforcement and served a term as Sheriff of Tyrrell County.  He was a member of Soundside Free Will Baptist Church where he served as deacon, choir member, cemetery committee member and “general handy man.”
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Soundside Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Royce Reynolds officiating.  Burial will follow in the Brickhouse Family cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, James Craig Brickhouse and wife, Teresa of Chesapeake, VA; two daughters, Sherry Oakes and husband, Billy and Tracey B. Brickhouse and husband, Ned all of Columbia; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Allen Brickhouse in 1999 and a brother, Edmond Brickhouse.
The family will receive friends at Soundside Free Will Baptist Church on Monday, December 11, 2017 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home.
