Nafeesa Muhammad “Virginia Jones”

Mrs. Nafeesa Muhammad, known locally as Virginia Jones, age 71, a resident of Durham and Chocowinity, passed Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.

She was born Aug. 13, 1946 to the late Louise Perry and Warren Perry, Sr. in New York City, New York. She married Abdul Hagg Muhammad, known locally as Robert Jones, in January 1970. Nafeesa was a supervisor for Southern Bell Communications for 20 years, retiring in 1987. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rasheima Muhammad. Survivors include her husband, Abdul Hagg Muhammad of the home; two sons, Akbar Muhammad of Washington, and Khalifah B. Muhammad and wife Rhozalynn Royal Muhammad of Durham; five grandchildren, Tornikquise Cradle, Gijuan Knight, Shaejuan Knight, Khalil Muhammad and Faheem Cradle; one great-grandchild, Malik Whitehurst; one sister, Diane Perry of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Warren Perry and wife Barbara of Garner, and Ruffus Perry and wife Deborah of Queens, New York.

A celebration of her life will be held 2 pm, Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A repast and memorial will be held in the parlor of Hillside Funeral Service following the interment. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 U.S. Highway 264 E., Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Muhammad-Jones family.
