Jack Edward “Eddie” Mason

Jack Edward “Eddie” Mason, 61, of Vanceboro, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017.
Mr. Mason is survived by his loving wife, Janie Lilley Mason; daughters, Hope Beck (husband Sonny) of Ernul, Temple Mason Bullock (husband Will) of New Bern, and Samantha Waters (husband Chris) of Pinetown; mother, Jean Lankford Brown and stepfather, Sam Brown, of Archdale; brothers, Dennis Coe (wife Patricia) of Ararat, and Kenneth Coe of Ararat; sisters, Frankie Coe (husband Steve) of Archdale, Lilly Mae Corns (husband Bill) of Madison, Brenda Tarkington (husband Bob) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina , and Mary Jane Shelton (husband Grey) of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren, Dylan Nobles, Darrin Nobles, Chaney Beck, Gavin Bullock, Madison Bullock, Austin Waters and Abigail Waters; and one great-grandchild, Amberly Nobles.
He is preceded in death by his son, Zachary Boyd; father, Jack Mason; and stepfather, Paul Coe.
Mr. Mason was a well-respected Sergeant at Craven Correctional Institution before he became a Training Specialist at Maurey Correctional Institution. He was also an adjunct instructor at various colleges. He worked with the Department of Public Safety for 21 years, worked with the New Bern Police Department, the Dobson Police Department, and the Pilot Mountain Police Department. Jack was an avid horse trainer and loved his animals.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 27. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. A private burial will take place at the Lilley Family Cemetery in Pinetown on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m.
