Washingtonian’s daughter wins prestigious award

HIGHEST HONOR: Dr. Kitty Rutherford, daughter of Carolyn and the late J.W. Carrow of Washington, was awarded the 2017 Rankin Award by the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics at its annual conference in Greensboro. The Rankin Award is designed to recognize and honor individuals for their outstanding contributions to NCCTM and to mathematics education in North Carolina. She was nominated by her peers for this prestigious award. The award, named in memory of W.W. Rankin, professor of mathematics at Duke University and first recipient, is the highest honor NCCTM can bestow upon an individual. Currently, Rutherford is serving as an instructional systems specialist for the Department of Defense Education Activity and resides were her husband, Jim, in Kaiserslautern, Germany. (Carolyn Carrow)
