Fenner “Snook” Cox

Mr. Fenner Forrest “Snook” Cox, age 88, a resident of Woodstock Road, Belhaven, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2017, at his home.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Rev. Eric Hill. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Cox was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 8, 1929. He was the son of the late Fenner Columbus Cox and Elizabeth Wilkinson Warren Cox. Mr. Cox worked many jobs over his life but he was best known as a farmer and a gardener. In his spare time, he was an avid reader, enjoyed history so much he was referred to as a “History Buff,” and watching Westerns on TV.

Mr. Cox is survived by his half-sister, Marie Boyd, of Belhaven; several nieces and nephews, and close friends, Melvin and Sarah Braddy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by half-brothers, Johnnie, Luther and H.L. Cox; half-sisters, Sybil D. McGowan, Mollie Belle Harris, Corrie M. Foster and Katy Carawan, and several nieces and nephews including Dalmon Boyd.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fenner “Snook” Cox Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, N.C. 27889. These funds will be used to start a scholarship in Mr. Cox’s name at Beaufort County Community College for horticulture studies.
