Cat Greenbriar or Glaucous Greenbrier (Smilax glauca) is a thorny, climbing, woody vine native to eastern United States, from Massachusetts to Missouri to East Texas to central Florida. It occurs in the upland forests throughout northeastern North Carolina including Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. The fruit persists throughout the winter and early spring until hungry birds or other animals, including deer & bear eat them.
