Dorothy Jones Dudley, 101, of the Fairfield Community, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at her daughter’s residence in Washington.

Born in Hyde County, Jan. 10, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Henry Carlyle and Lessie Fisher Jones. She was married to Leland Dudley who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church Women, Fairfield Book Club and a 1936 graduate of the former East Carolina Teachers College. Upon her graduation, she taught school in the Pantego Public School. In 1938, she was elected as Queen of the Albemarle Sound Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the Fairfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Myron Simmons and Rev. Edith Jenkins will officiate.

A private burial will be held at the family plot in Fairfield Cemetery.

Surviving is a daughter, Edith D. Jenkins and husband, Carroll, of Washington and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Carlisle Jones, Jr.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
