Bernard E. Morris

Mr. Bernard Elliot Morris, age 91, a resident of Bath, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at the Cooke-Morris Cemetery, 4377 Kelly Road, Bath, and will be conducted by Craig Hagen.

Mr. Morris was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 26, 1926, to the late Noah and Dena Simmons Morris. On Dec. 5, 1963, he married Maggie Ross Cooke, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2010. He was a retired postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service, was a past member of the VFW, member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and was a member of Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Morris served in the United States Army.

Survivors include three sons, Monte Morris, of the home, Gerald L. Cooke and wife Judy, of Greenville, A.W. Cooke and wife Rhonda, of Washington; two daughters, Carolyn Ricks, of Pantego, Narcissie “Sissy” Spencer and husband Tim, of Bath; a sister, Ann Dean Mason, of Macon, Georgia; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, one sister and six brothers.
