Some birding resident & migration species maps don’t show Sandhill Cranes in North Carolina. But in fact throughout the years, Sandhill Cranes have visited the region, as they did this past weekend on the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Elegant & long-legged, Sandhill Cranes have a uniquely loud & distinctive trumpeting call.
