Floyd Leland Owens

Mr. Floyd Leland Owens, age 87, a resident of Holly Glen Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at the N.C. Veterans Home in Kinston. Private services are being held.

Mr. Owens was born in Pitt County on Dec. 9, 1930. He was the son of the late Amos Leland Owens and Mittie Everett Owens Highsmith. Mr. Owens served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the N.C. Highway Patrol for 31 years, retiring as a 1st Sergeant. He was a member of the Autry’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Fountain and the First Baptist Church in Washington. Mr. Owens was a Mason for over 50 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, operating his “Ham” Radio and flying airplanes.

Mr. Owens was married to the former Edna Dail, who preceded him in death, July 3, 2015.

Survivors include his children, Keith Owens, of Washington, Barbara Owens, of Washington, Dail Owens and his friend, Becky Hatcher, of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Sara Catherine Owens and Alex Owens, both of Washington, Brandon Owens and Leland Owens, both of Ahoskie; three step-grandchildren, Jordan Ambrose, Camden Ambrose, Taylor Owens, all of Washington; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Davis and Madison Davis, both of Washington, Summer Owens, Camron Owens, Tyler Owens, all of Ahoskie.
