Special Olympics names new co-coordinator for Beaufort and Hyde counties

Raleigh — Kathy Newman, of Aurora, has been named the local program co-coordinator for Special Olympics Beaufort and Hyde counties effective immediately, according to SONC President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.
In this volunteer position, Newman will be assisting Eric Sedlacek, who has been serving as the sole coordinator for Beaufort and Hyde counties. She will assist in the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Beaufort and Hyde counties by leading a committee that will provide sports training, competition opportunities, and health and wellness initiatives for children and adults who have intellectual disabilities. Under their leadership, the committee will recruit, train and manage local volunteers and work to increase athlete participation as well as raising funds in support of the local program.
Newman has previously served as a committee member and local coordinator for Special Olympics Beaufort and Hyde counties. She is currently employed by Beaufort County Schools as an administrative assistant.
