LeRoy Thomas Woolard

Mr. LeRoy Thomas Woolard, 79, of Washington, died Feb. 9, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home and will be officiated by Marty Alligood. All friends and family are invited to attend.
Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 31, 1938, to the late Olive and Julian Thomas Woolard. Following graduation from Washington High School, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1965. He also served in the Army National Guard until being honorably discharged in 1969. Upon his return home, he was employed by the City of Washington and then entered a career with Hamilton Beach, from where he eventually retired.
Mr. Woolard attended Beaver Dam Church. He enjoyed attending farm auctions on Saturday mornings and participating in various social activities, especially going out to dinner with friends and family. Mr. Woolard was a resident of River Trace Nursing and Rehab for the past six years, where you could find him most days greeting guests in the front parlor with his infectious smile. While there, he was a favorite with the nurses, staff, and other residents and served as President of the Residents Council. He was lovingly referred to as the “Mayor of River Trace.”
Preceding Mr. Woolard in death were three sisters, Aleita Gail Woolard, Thelma Lee Tyndall, and Janice Marie Woolard, all of Washington. Survivors include two sisters, Nelda Woolard Bennett and husband David, of Aurora, and Connie Woolard Winstead and husband Roger, of Bath; three nieces, Wendy G. Alligood and Pamela Bennett, both of Washington, and Heather Jordan and husband Kurt, of Pinetown; and four nephews, Ricky Woolard and wife Susan, of Washington, John Allen Tyndall, of Greenville, Brad Winstead and wife Haley, of Boca Raton, Florida, and Justin Winstead and wife Ashley, of Pinetown. Mr. Woolard also had eight great-nephews and five grea- nieces, as well as three great-great-nephews and two great-great-nieces.
