­­Mr. Wayne Garland Barr, age 87, a resident of Chocowinity, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Beaufort Vidant Hospital.

He was born Aug. 11, 1930, to the late Rebecca Bell Barr and William Griffin Barr in Beaufort County. Wayne served his country in the United States Army retiring as Sergeant E-6 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Chocowinity.

He is survived by his wife, Ingrid Kabrhel Barr, of the home; a daughter, Linda Barr Hilleren of Hampton, Virginia; two sons, Steven Barr, of Greenville, and Ronald Barr, of Santa Clarita, California. Wayne is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

A graveside celebration of Wayne’s life will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at the Providence Methodist Cemetery, Chocowinity, with Pastor Ric Watford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Two Hanover Square Suite 1600, Raleigh, NC 27601. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Barr family.
