James Edgar Smith, 92, of Grifton, passed away on Feb. 14, 2018, at his home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gibson Tom Smith and Sally Beatrice Price Smith. He is also preceded by his first wife, Ethel Mayo Smith, and his second wife, Susie Harrison Smith.

James is survived by his daughter, Janice Smith Bowen, of Grifton; son, James “Jim” Edgar Smith, Jr., of Grifton; stepchildren, Connie Benson, of Pantego, Al Clark, of Chocowinity, Cheryl Reed, of Chocowinity, and Fred C. Mills, III, of Angier; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at noon at Garner Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Knox officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 11 a.m. until noon. The burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
