Mrs. Margaret Gold Evans Cherry, age 90, a resident of 10141 Cherry Run Road, Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, March 1, 2018, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Washington.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Snowd Branch Church of God, officiated by Pastor Jack Holloman and Pastor Jerry Waters. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Charles Taylor, John Davis, Gary Woolard, Christopher Woolard, Walt Alligood and Mack Beddard will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Cherry was born in Pitt County on Nov. 15, 1927, daughter of the late William Arthur Evans and Louise Nicholls Evans. On Jan. 23, 1947, she married Charles L. Cherry who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1994. Mrs. Cherry was a homemaker and loved to cook and sew. She loved to work in her garden, sold butterbeans for Red & White Supermarket. She was a member of Snowd Branch Church of God for 52 years, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Willing Workers. She later was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Auxiliary.

Mrs. Cherry is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann Beddard and husband Mack, of Greenville, and Debra Charlette Lilley and husband Howard, of Chocowinity; her sisters, Rebecca Hudson and husband Rodney, of Greenville, and Shirley Gwaltney, of Sanford; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, James Taylor and Patrick Sherrod; and her two cats, Bushy Tail and Miss Kitty. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Carol Taylor and Janet Kay Sherrod; her brother, Arthur Evans, Jr.; and her sister, Louise Fields.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday at Snowd Branch Church of God and other times at the home of her daughter, at 10063 Cherry Run Road, Greenville.
