‘Dueling Pianos’ opens Thursday evening

The Historic Turnage Theater will be alive with the sounds of dueling pianos this evening.

Co-sponsored by the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce and Arts of the Pamlico, the event promises to be a fast-paced, enjoyable affair, starring seasoned dueling piano players Jonathan C. from South Carolina and Landon C. from Richmond, Virginia.

“It’s a live, interactive, all-request interactive show where the audience gets to request songs and sing along,” Chamber Assistant Director Robin McKeithan said. “So it’s a fun-filled time for everyone.”

For the staff at Arts of the Pamlico, the event is perfectly in line with the organization’s missions of providing art and cultural events in downtown Washington.

“It’s a high-energy show, with two piano players who take request from the audience and play a real vibrant array of music throughout the evening,” AOP Executive Director Debra Torrence said. “It’s just a ton of fun. People just love it. We sold out last year, and we encourage people to come out again. We’re selling tickets quick.”

While the event is an opportunity for local residents to enjoy a pair of guest performers, Chamber Executive Director Catherine Glover says the event serves dual roles for the Chamber and the community at large.

“It’s kind of twofold,” Glover said. “We have to raise 100 percent of our funds each year, but we’re also bringing cultural entertainment to the community.”

Both AOP and the Chamber partner with various organizations throughout the year to host events and fundraisers, all with the goal of making Washington a better place to live.

“It’s an event for us and a fundraiser for the chamber,” Torrence said. “We want to support their efforts to build a strong business community in our county. They do an awesome job with that.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Turnage, with the show running from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $20 each, and can be purchased at the Chamber or from Arts of the Pamlico. For more information, call the Chamber at 252-946-9168 or visit www.artsofthepamlico.org.
