Ernest Hertford “Doodlebug” Hardison III

Mr. Ernest Hertford “Doodlebug” Hardison III, age 62, a resident of 4055 N.C. Hwy 33 East, Chocowinity, died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at his home.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Haw Branch Church of Christ Cemetery, Chocowinity, conducted by Jason Kirkman.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Junior Wainwright, Nathan Canady, Kelvin Hardison, Mike Mann, Tommy Hardison, and Cole Mann.

“Doodlebug” was born in Beaufort County on August 27, 1955.  He was the son of the late Ernest Hertford Hardison, Jr. and Betty Pearl Carawan Hardison. Mr. Hardison had worked as manager of Washington Packing Company. Since August 2009, he was the manager of the ABC store on John Small Avenue in Washington.

“Doodlebug” had a love for animals. He rode his horses with a local riding group. Besides his horses, “Doodlebug” enjoyed goats, chickens, guineas and dogs.

On March 20, 1996, he married the former Harriett Ecklin, who survives.

Surviving with his wife, is his aunt, Grace Hardison of Chocowinity and several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
