Beaufort County Community College’s Beau-Fitt program is gearing up for its second annual health fair on May 15. The free, fun-packed event will educate the community about diabetes prevention, childhood obesity and other health related issues.

The fair will have a mix of vendors offering different aspects of healthy living. Vidant Beaufort Hospital will provide free health screenings. Nicole Cross Massage will offer free massages. Omega Sports will provide an opportunity to try on running shoes. Fitness Unlimited will offer juice samples. There will be information about BCCC’s community garden project and College for Kids summer programs. The fair is a perfect opportunity for a lunch-hour visit for free food and information about healthy living. There will be free giveaways and raffles. Transportation may be provided for small groups upon request.

“Unhealthy options always seem easier to come by,” BCCC grant writer Julie Crippen said. “We want to bring all these vendors under one roof so it is just as easy to make healthy decisions.”

The fair is sponsored in part by the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and MDC Grants. The Beau-Fitt program has provided health and wellness sessions for the past three years. The next free monthly event is a Zumba session, followed by a healthy eating demo sponsored by a local restaurant/caterer. This will take place on April 17 beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room in Building 10 at the college.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of Building 10 on the BCCC campus. For more information, contact Julie Crippen at 252-940-6271 or Katrina Barrows at 252-940-6486.
