Helen May Smith Thienpont

Mrs. Helen May Smith Thienpont, of Brookdale, Greenville, and formerly of Merrick, LI, New York, and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, died Friday, April 6, 2018. Affectionally known as “Skippy,” she was born March 4, 1923, to Ralph and Elizabeth Smith in Tuxedo Park, New York. Mrs. Thienpont was a lifelong member of Community Presbyterian Church, Merrick, New York, where she was an Elder of the church and an active member of the choir. Her family was her life and her passion, and she loved to sing and dance.

Mrs. Thienpont was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marcel. She leaves behind to continue her legacy of family, love and joy her four sons: Br. Elias Thienpont, of Assumption Abbey, Richardton, North Dakota, Russell Thienpont and wife Wendy of Washington, Charles Thienpont and wife Terri, of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and Brian Thienpont and wife Kathy, of Malvern, New York. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory four grandsons, two granddaughters, four great-grandsons and seven great-granddaughters, her brother Ralph and wife Gay, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Washington. A private internment will take place at a later time at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
