It’s time again to Jam with Dee, and this canning season will start with delectable strawberries.
Dee Furlough, Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent for Dare and Tyrrell counties, will lead canners in making Strawberry-Kiwi Jam and Strawberry Honey.
Novices as well as seasoned canners are invited to participate on Wednesday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. in the Tyrrell County Extension Center, 407 Martha Street, in Columbia.
Cost is $2 per person and includes all you need for successful hot-water bath canning in class and at home.
Contact Michelle Haney at 252-796-1581 or michelle_haney@ncsu.edu by May 21 to register. Space is limited so call today.
Canner testing
This is also the time to begin thinking about the accuracy of your dial-gauge pressure canner. The Tyrrell County Cooperative Extension Center will have a Free Canner Testing Day on Thursday, May 17, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Bring in your canner lid only, clearly marked with your name and phone number. The canner lid will be tested for pressure accuracy and thoroughly inspected to insure its safety for your use.
Our equipment tests gauge dials only, not the jiggler type. For more information, contact Dee Furlough at 252-796-1581 or dee_furlough@ncsu.edu.
