Seniors health insurance counselors recognized
Tyrrell County recently celebrated its Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteers and their outreach throughout the year in a ceremony in the Tyrrell County Senior Adult Activities Center in Columbia.
Dee Furlough, SHIIP coordinator, and SHIIP counselors Dee Dee Bullock, Erielle Cooper, and Michelle Haney were recognized by Lisa Barker, NC Department of Insurance regional trainer. Also present to congratulate the volunteers were Tommy Everett, county commissioner, county manager David Clegg, and Columbia Mayor James Cahoon.
The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and long-term care insurance.
The counselors offer free and unbiased information regarding Medicare health care products.
“We also help people recognize and prevent Medicare billing errors and possible fraud and abuse through our NC Senior Medicare Patrol Program,” said Furlough.
