Rev. Valerie Melvin to lead Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina

The Rev. Valerie J. Melvin, 58, on May 19, was called to be regional minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina.

The denomination has more than 200 congregations in the Tar Heel State, including two of which are in Columbia:  Columbia Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Bridge Street.

The Rev. Dr. William Barber II of New Bern, statewide moderator, announced Rev. Melvin’s appointment on behalf of the regional board and assembly.

Rev. Melvin has served for nearly 11 years as associate regional minister. The Goldsboro native is a lifelong Disciple.

She is founder of Victory is Inevitable Ministries which was received in 2014 into Life Changing Ministries International Fellowship of Farmville, where she is bishop of Christian Education.

Rev. Melvin is an undergraduate of Barton College and holds two degrees from Duke University Divinity School: Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theology.

She was ordained in the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, in 1995, of which Zion Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, on South Road Street is a member. She received dual ordination in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 2003.

The date and time of Rev. Melvin’s installation will be announced soon, Dr. Barber stated.
