Drugs and two firearms were allegedly seized from a man accused of selling marijuana near a playground in Washington.
Thursday, Washington Police charged Davon Donnell Reid, 36, with possession with intent to manufacture sell and or deliver marijuana within 1,000 feet of a playground, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of firearm by felon. Reid’s residence, 604 W. 13th St., is located near a Washington Housing Authority playground between West 13th and Cooper streets, according to a press release from Washington Police Department.
The press release stated two firearms — an SDS Imports Lynx 12-guage shotgun and an Anderson Manufacturing AR-15 .223-caliber rifle — were confiscated during execution of the search warrant.
Washington Police and Fire Services Chief Stacy Drakeford said investigators are currently tracking down where the weapons were purchased. The seizure of weapons follows another by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the week, in which 10 firearms were found during a search for drugs at two residences on Springs Road and Steeplechase Road.
Drakeford said complaints from residents prompted the investigation into the sale of marijuana in the neighborhood—marijuana and cocaine cases make of the majority of their drug investigations.
“Last year we had 92 (marijuana arrests), but it’s kind of hard to tell you exactly how many we make because some of them are investigations like this that go on for months,” Drakeford said.
